Technical University of Košice and the Ministry of Interior of the Slovak Republic signed a memorandum on the protection of soft targets

Košice, October 28, 2025 — The Technical University of Košice (TUKE) and the Ministry of Interior of the Slovak Republic signed a memorandum of cooperation in the field of soft target protection. The ceremonial signing was personally attended by the Minister of Interior of the Slovak Republic Matúš Šutaj Eštok, together with the university leadership.

Comprehensive security audit as the foundation of cooperation

During the event, the TUKE leadership presented the results of a comprehensive security audit, which was carried out for the university by the company Decent Cybersecurity s. r. o. The audit evaluated the level of physical, technical and organizational security and brought a series of recommendations to increase the university’s resilience against potential attacks on soft targets.

The audit included an analysis of legislative and procedural frameworks, risk assessment and proposals for specific technical and organizational measures. The goal was to strengthen the university’s security environment, protect students, employees and visitors, and at the same time create a model for other public institutions in Slovakia.

“The issue of soft target protection is among the most current challenges of today. Our goal is to strengthen the preparedness of public institutions, including universities, for new types of security threats,” stated the Minister of Interior of the Slovak Republic Matúš Šutaj Eštok.

Implementation of recommendations and long-term cooperation

The team of experts from Decent Cybersecurity identified key risks within the audit and prepared a set of measures to increase TUKE’s resilience against physical and cyber threats. The university is already gradually implementing several of the recommended measures into practice.

“We are proud that the Technical University of Košice is among the institutions that actively approach the protection of their students and employees. Soft target protection requires a comprehensive approach — technical, organizational and educational,” stated Matej Michalko, CEO of Decent Cybersecurity.
